Odd news from around the world

Death to cats — from ISIS: “Jihadi fighters are hunting down kittens in the Iraqi city of Mosul after a fatwa on cat-breeders was issued by senior ISIS clerics. The new law forbids the indoor breeding of cats inside the Islamic State’s ‘caliphate’ and claims to be in line with the jihadists’ “vision, ideology and beliefs”. Residents of the northern Iraqi city of Mosul were warned not to violate the ban which was declared on Tuesday, as ISIS fighters began searching their houses for kittens, Iraqi News reported. The purge will come as a surprise to many after the terrorist group deliberately posted pictures of kittens on social media in a bid to attract new breed of young fighters. A fatwa is a legal decree issued by a specialist in Islamic law. ISIS relies on a central committee to issue fatwas which is comprised of influential clerics and figures working for the group.

Melbourne gelato bar is serving Nutella ON TAP and the internet can’t handle it: “How much chocolate is too much chocolate? Well, if you’re the owners of this gelato bar in Melbourne, it seems no amount will ever be enough. That’s because chef Johnny Di Francesco has installed an endless Nutella tap at his Zero Gradi outlet that guests can use to coat their ice cream in the delicious treat. And it seems his customers absolutely adore it judging by the dozens of Instagram videos which have amassed millions of views between them. Showing some mixed feelings, user katieandrade96 added: ‘Omg that’s disgusting but beautiful.’

Good doggy: “Christine Pilchowski had picked up her children from a friends home when Jazmine, 5, decided to run ahead, reported Daily Mercury. Just moment later, Jazmine returned running and screaming to her mother as a dog followed close behind. ‘I had myself between the dog and the kids and we were at a bit of a stalemate. We weren’t moving anywhere, the dog was barking and my daughter was screaming,’ Ms Pilchowski said. Ms Pilchowski was at a loss, unable to decide how to get her two children safely away from the aggressive terrier when Boxer came to their rescue. ‘It [Boxer] just stood there showing no aggression whatsoever, but was very much in control.’ With Boxer in control of the situation, Ms Pilchowski fled with her children to the safety of their home. Rocky’s owner, Michael Pittman, said his dog is able to sense when people need help.

Stupid woman can’t handle the fact that sheep are often reared for meat: “A vegan travel blogger has broken down in tears after seeing a crate of sheep being trafficked on a ferry while trying to capture ‘beautiful video footage’. Kristin Lajeunesse, originally from the U.S., was on a ferry from Picton to Wellington in New Zealand on Monday when she smelt ‘animal faeces’ at the rear of the boat and decided to investigate. Ms Lajeunesse became emotional after seeing dozens of sheep packed into a crate, describing the scene as ‘cruelty set against beauty’. She then panned the video to the mountains behind her, saying the scenery was ‘meaningless now’. While she had many supporters saying how devastating her experience on the ferry was, Ms Lajeunesse was also heavily criticised”

Aggressive cat chases kangaroo: “Bailey the cat is known for acting like a dog, and even growls at the postman when he delivers the mail. And it seems his canine capabilities go even further than that, with the cat unafraid of the kangaroo despite it being more than three times his size. The startled kangaroo had to bounce away with its tail between its legs after the cat turned on it and chased it off the road. Bailey’s owner Ann Connell told 9 News that her pet was raised with her ‘fairly aggressive’ German shepherd and has taken on many of the dog’s traits. ‘When someone rings the doorbell, he gets up and runs to the door and growls,’ she said. Ms Connell added that her cat is protective around her grandchildren and another pet dog. Despite his feisty demeanour, Ms Connell insists that Bailey is popular with the neighbours”
