Odd news from around the world

Pesky employee: “An unsuspecting Walmart worker called Shane has become an internet hit after messages addressed to him from his ‘management’ were posted online. One reads: ‘Shane, stop putting “some assembly required” stickers on the eight-piece chickens. Another meat-related message reads: ‘Shane, stop putting out samples labeled as “Mystery Meats” – Management’. He is also accused of directing customers with queries to rival grocery store Albertsons and handing out ‘free samples’ from the electronics department. Another sign reprimands him for putting ‘Stoner Approved’ labels on fried chicken, while he is also accused of wearing other people’s name tags and ‘pretending to have a personality disorder’. One message claims he offered ‘extended warranties’ on fried chicken. In another, ‘management’ asks him to ‘stop asking “Is that your final answer?” and offering to let them phone a friend after each order’. In one message he is asked to stop trying to sell deli equipment to customers. Another note demands: ‘Shane, stop implying Walmart keeps the “Good Stuff” in the back'”

Hero driver stopped his double decker bus in the middle of a busy road to help an old man cross: “The hunt is on for a ‘wonderful’ bus driver who stopped his double decker to help an elderly man cross a busy road. The unidentified driver put the brakes on in the middle of Glasgow after seeing an elderly man struggling across the street. A video, which has now been viewed over 22,000 times, shows the kind employee linking arms with the pensioner, named on social media as ‘Willy’, and assisting him to the pavement. After making sure the stranger is safe, he dodges past cars to get back to the bus and resumes the service. His actions have drawn the praise of compassionate Scots, who have said ‘We need more of you in this country'”

Driver smashes his brand new £200,000 McLaren supercar into a tree TEN MINUTES after taking delivery of it: “A red-faced motorist has been left counting the cost after crashing a £200,000 supercar within minutes of taking delivery of it. Neighbours saw the delighted new owner of a McLaren 650S Spider celebrating with a bottle of champagne as it was unloaded at his home. But only moments later it was seen crashing into a tree on a nearby road in Hutton, Essex. The front of the car was left in bits after it collided head-on with a tree and the rear of mid-engined car was damaged by a sign-post. Fortunately no-one was injured in the crash last Wednesday. Essex police has appealed for information from anyone who may have witnessed it being driven before the crash. The McLaren 650S Spider can cost more than £215,000 new, can go from 0 to 62mph in just three seconds and has a top speed of 204mph.

The world’s most expensive plane ticket: “Etihad Airways’ route between the financial hubs of New York and Mumbai has become the most expensive flight in the world, with a seat in a private luxury suite costing a small fortune. A one-way ticket for The Residence, a three-room ‘penthouse in the sky’ that has its own butler and chef, sells for approximately $38,000 (£26,000) – the equivalent of a year’s salary for many workers. That means a return flight in the exclusive cabin (with stopovers in Abu Dhabi) would cost a staggering $76,000 (£52,000) at single or double occupancy. Etihad, the United Arab Emirates’ national carrier, already laid claim to the world’s most expensive one-way flight on its New York-Abu Dhabi route. It costs $32,000 (£22,000) to fly in The Residence on that route. The swanky cabin, which has a living room, bedroom and en-suite shower room, is available only on Etihad’s fleet of Airbus A380-800 aircraft”

The superyacht from suburbia: Slick design features all the comforts of home – including a small garden: “Living on the water could become a lot more hospitable – and stylish – if this concept yacht is ever launched. Called ‘Your Yacht, Your House’, the vessel could be the ultimate houseboat for wealthy types who crave lazy days on a calm lake or bay. It combines all the comforts of home and a luxury sailing experience in a contemporary yacht that features a sleek design and technology to reduce its ecological footprint. Designed by Maxim Zhivov, from Russia, the yacht could be used as a permanent residence or a holiday home. It has an outer layer of solar panels that capture the sun’s energy, which is used to power everything on board. The open stern resembles the back of a house, with floor-to-ceiling windows, a tiny balcony off a bedroom, a small patch of grass and a lounge area. Dock-like extensions create space for tenders or could double as a sun deck on pleasant days”
