Odd news from around the world
Dopey FBI: “Tens of millions of bestselling smartphones can easily be hacked by criminals using a £120 device that cracks their four-digit passcode. An investigation by The Mail on Sunday found the gadget, sold openly on the internet, could be used to gain access to private and confidential details stored on Apple iPhones, including photographs, emails, contact details and call histories. Using the device – called an IP Box – this newspaper was able to break the passcode of an Apple iPhone 5C, the model that America’s Federal Bureau of Investigation had been fighting to access in order to gain information about a terrorist massacre. The FBI entered a high-stakes legal battle with Apple over the handset belonging to Syed Farook, who died with his wife in a gun battle with police after the couple killed 14 people in December in San Bernardino, California”
Rogue bus driver in Boston: “A school bus driver was placed on administrative leave after video of him driving the bus with a man hanging on to the mirror surfaced on Facebook. James ‘Mikey’ Burdett of Boston says he was pushed by the bus filled with young children after telling the driver to stop so he could pick up his child. Burdett and other parents are reportedly not happy about recent changes made to the school bus route. ‘Stop the bus this is my daughter’s stop,’ Burdett reportedly told the driver, according to CBS. ‘When I tried to talk to him he wouldn’t open the door so I stood in front of the bus and put my hand out and said ‘just listen I want my daughter that’s it,'” Burdett told CBS. ‘And I said it the first time he just pressed on the gas,’ he continued. Burdett tried to get away from the bus once it started moving, but he was unable. Transdev, the contractor that operates all BPS school buses, immediately removed the driver from service”
Cannabis users are skidders: “International research has revealed that the more cannabis you smoke, the more likely you are to be lower paid and have relationship difficulties. The study followed children from birth up to the age of 38 and found people who smoked cannabis four or more days a week over many years ended up in a lower social class than their parents. It also found that regular and persistent users ended up with lower-paying, less skilled and less prestigious jobs than those who were not regular cannabis smokers. Financial, work-related and relationship difficulties were further experienced by those taking the drug, which worsened as the number of years of regular cannabis use progressed. ‘Our study found that regular cannabis users experienced downward social mobility and more financial problems such as troubles with debt and cash flow than those who did not report such persistent use”
Dumb hipster: “It was a ‘what the’ moment where logic appeared to go out the window. A hilarious picture shows the moment a ‘hipster’ tried to do the impossible task of fitting a large piece of furniture inside a hatchback car. The bizarre yet hilarious scene was captured by an onlooker on Exhibition Street, in Melbourne’s CBD. Not only does the furniture appear to be bigger than the car but the boot was deemed too small. The young man instead turned to the side of the vehicle managing to put a corner of the couch through the door. The hispter’s chosen method of fitting the couch into the car baffled social media users. ‘Given it’s a station wagon, has he already tried the rear door and when that didn’t fit thought “right, better try the side doors”?’ said another. ‘His manbun must be too tight,’ said one user”
Surprised Indian mother gives birth to FIVE daughters through natural delivery: “A mother who went into hospital expecting to give birth to one baby was more than a little surprised just over half an hour later when she had five daughters. When Manita Singh was rushed into hospital at just 26 weeks pregnant after she began to complain of labour pains, she feared the worse. The 25-year-old had lost her first son shortly after he was born two years earlier, and she now faced the prospect of losing this baby as well. At 11am, the doctors at the local government hospital in Ambikapur, in Chhattisgarh in eastern India, delivered the first little girl naturally at 11am – swiftly followed by her four sisters. However, the little girls – who weigh just 1.5kg, or 3.3 pounds, each – are not quite out of the woods yet, the doctors who are closely monitoring the children have said.”
