Odd news from around the world

British health boss told blind father of two to ‘look at me when I’m talking to you’ even after he’d explained he couldn’t see: “A blind man claims a health boss told him ‘look at me when I’m talking to you’ minutes after he explained he couldn’t see. Peter Bennetts, of South Shields, near Newcastle, says he was at a patient forum meeting at a local medical centre when the comment was made by a practice manager. The 60-year-old father-of-two said just minutes after introducing himself and explaining that he was legally blind the manager was asked to answer some concerns he had raised. But he was left astounded when she said to him ‘look at me when I’m talking to you.’ Due to his condition, he doesn’t always turn towards people or make eye contact as they speak. He said: ‘It was disgusting that a medical professional would say something like that, especially when I had just told everyone that I’m blind two minutes earlier.”

Mysterious Sydney railway station: “The latest government-issued bus map for inner west Sydney includes, as clear as day, a reference to Clyburn station. The only problem is Clyburn station doesn’t exist and in many ways never really did. The last time a train screeched to a stop at this isolated halt was 24 years ago this month. Yet it has mysteriously found its way back onto the Sydney transport map. As expresses shoot past to Parramatta and Penrith, the site is now little more than a wide patch of green between the tracks with piles of earth and traces of concrete. However, even when it was open, slapping it on a public transport map wouldn’t have been much use as it was never used by the public. No road meets it and it was reserved for a select group of people only. Clyburn opened in 1948 and is surrounded on all sides by railway workshops. “For the ease of people going to the workshops they built this little station that was only intended to be used by people working there”

A woman from Florida claims an ‘elusive goat rapist’ is repeatedly assaulting her animals: “Sharon Cruz-Pecina has called on police to arrest the person she is convinced is trespassing on her property and having sex with her three pets. She thinks the animals have been attacked since last summer. Sharon, from Caryville, Florida, told local TV news station WJHG: ‘He’s been attacking them and raping them. I’m not jumping to conclusions.’ She bought the goats five years ago because her husband is lactose intolerant but is not affected by goat milk. In April last year she was housing her goats about a mile away from her home when a man was spotted and identified lingering in the area. The man was charged in 2014 with engaging in sexual activity with an animal, Sharon added. She also has photographic evidence the goats have been assaulted.”

Secret 103rd floor balcony of the Empire State Building — usually open only to VIPs — is revealed in vertigo-inducing photographs: “The 103rd floor of the Empire State Building is one floor up from the official ‘Top Floor’ accessible to the public. Open to the air and protected only by a small ledge and low railing, views from the floor are dizzying for those without a head for heights. While it is closed to the public, celebrities including Taylor Swift have had their photos taken there. The metal structure that houses the floor was originally said to be for passenger airships like the Hindenburg, which were thought to be the future of travel in the ’30s. But some believe it was really just a way to make sure it would be taller than the Chrysler Building”

Huge shark filmed: “This incredible new footage shows the moment the largest great white shark ever filmed tries to take a bite out of a diving cage containing four cameramen. The 20ft-long female known as Deep Blue stunned the world last year when video was unveiled of it dwarfing cage divers off the coast of Guadalupe Island, Mexico. Now new footage taken from inside the cage has been released by Michael Maier, who described the moment they saw her emerge from the deep water below them. Deep Blue swims for a piece of fish used by the cage divers to attract her to the cage, off the coast of Mexico in November 2013. ‘All of a sudden out of the deep blue, there she came. We realised almost immediately that she was very big. ‘She was very calm and not at all nervous and was circling us. She was very interested and was looking at us.
