Odd news from around the world

Mentally ill woman has all her lady bits cut out: “One Boston-based writer who doesn’t identify as male or female decided to undergo two major surgeries, ensuring that the presence of a uterus and breasts wouldn’t define who they are as a person, or tie them to a specific gender. Lore Graham, from Boston, Massachusetts, is a self-described ‘nonbinary’ person, choosing no single gender. Lore does not like to be called ‘her’ or he’, preferring ‘ze’ instead. While the writer was born biologically female, Lore felt encumbered by breasts, ovaries and a uterus – and decided to do something about it, undergoing both a mastectomy and hysterectomy this summer. Up until recently, Lore lived as a feminine cisgender girl – meaning, Lore was biologically a girl and also projected as one. But that lifestyle never felt quite right, and being a typical ‘girl’ wasn’t a perfect fit. However, Lore isn’t totally transgender, and didn’t necessarily want to be a boy either – so complete sexual reassignment surgery was not the solution.”

Dripping makes a comeback: “Beef dripping is the sort of food that would give health experts and government watchdogs palpitations. The fact it is pure animal fat, made from rendered down beef cattle, would seem to be enough to send blood cholesterol readings off the scale. However, a beef dripping product has been named ‘Supreme Champion’ in a contest of the best gourmet and artisan foods that Britain and Europe has to offer. Finest Quality’ beef dripping from James Whelan Butchers of Clonmel in County Tipperary, Ireland, beat 10,000 other food and drink products in the Great Taste 2015 awards. The awards are organised by the Guild of Fine Food and involved teams of expert judges who assessed everything from fine cuts of meat to cheeses, honey, oils, chocolate, beer and spirits. It fell out of favour over the last 30 years because animal fats have been demonised for their role in furring up the arteries, weight gain and associated ill health. However, it seems that this could be about to change.”

Bentley now does an SUV: “British luxury car giant Bentley has unleashed its first ever 4X4 and pledged that the £160,000 187mph Bentayga will be ‘the most powerful, luxurious, and exclusive sports utility vehicle in the world’. The ultimate ‘Chelsea Tractor’ will give added supercar cachet to school run mums, as well as drivers heading off-road up mountain terrain – and cost the price of two Range Rovers. Photographs, details and video of the British-built 4X4 supercar were issued by Bentley just days before it formally launches the Bentayga at next week’s Frankfurt Motor Show. It will seat four or five – depending on choice. It is powered by a vast 6-litre 600bhp twin-turbo-charged W12 TSI engine – equivalent to six Ford Fiestas – linked to an eight speed ZF automatic gear-box and with permanent all-wheel drive. Blistering performance means it will accelerate from rest to 62mph in just 4.1 seconds with a top speed of 187mph. But average fuel consumption is just 22mpg”

Woman warns police about the loaded gun hidden inside her genitalia: “Police in Texas who made a major drug bust during a traffic stop on Monday found a lot more than they were expecting. Officers in Waco pulled over a 1998 Toyota Land Rover around 11pm for a traffic violation and, after a search of the vehicle, found 2.5 grams of methamphetamine under the vehicle’s driver’s seat. The driver, Gabriel Garcia, 30, was then arrested and taken into custody. However a further search of the car found 29.5 grams of methamphetamine in the purse of the passenger, Ashley Cecilia Castaneda, 31, according to NBC. Castaneda was also arrested and taken into custody, however while being transported to jail she told police there was a gun concealed in her vagina. Once at the jail, a female officer searched Castaneda. The officer found a loaded .22 caliber semi-automatic Smith and Wesson pistol inside Castenada’s vagina. The weapon had a round in the chamber and a full magazine.”

Thin lady does good: “She is leading another high profile case, and on Tuesday it was time for Amal Clooney to get to work. The human rights lawyer was seen arriving at Maafushi jail in the Maldives to meet with jailed former president Mohamed Nasheed. Amal, the wife of actor George Clooney, spent a number of hours with Nasheed in the high security prison, as part of her team’s efforts to secure the release of the politician. Joined by her co-counsel and members of her team, she made her way into the prison where she waited to meet with Nasheed, who is serving a 13 year jail term. She may have another difficult fight on her hands but the human rights lawyer received a warm welcome when she arrived in the Maldives to further pursue the case of Nasheed. The United States, the European Union and India have all expressed concern at the jailing of Nasheed for 13 years for ordering the detention of a judge in 2012 when he was still president. Last week the United States called for the Maldives government to release the former president after he was sent back to prison from house arrest.”
