Odd news from around the world
Local newspaper sells out after misprint: “A local newspaper was forced to issue a grovelling apology after an advert for a car hire company was altered to say that they offered oral sex to customers. The Pembrokeshire Herald said it is calling in the police after they inadvertently printed the obscenity. The Enterprise Rent-a-Car advert read: ‘Free pick-up from your home, office or repair shop, and c*** s******’. Other adverts in the South Wales newspaper were also sabotaged just before it went to print. The pages were altered after they were formally signed off by the editorial team ahead of publication. Publisher Tom Sinclair said the paper sold in record numbers as people desperately tried to get hold of a copy. ‘I was phoned up by Tesco and told they had run out of copies of the paper and they get 600,’ he said. ‘I don’t have the final sale figures yet, but people were saying they were finding it hard to get a copy.”
Man tries to hide turtle in burger to sneak it past airport security: “A MAN has attempted to smuggle his “beloved” pet turtle through airport security by hiding it in a KFC burger. On Monday, a man known only as Mr Li was flying from China’s Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport to the capital Beijing, the South China Morning Post reported citing the Guangzhou Daily. As Mr Li’s bag was passed through an X-ray machine, airport security officers noticed what were described as “odd protrusions” coming out of the burger which Li had packed in his bag. “There’s no turtle in there, just a hamburger,” Mr Li said, according to the report. “There’s nothing special to see inside.” The turtle was discovered in a subsequent inspection and Mr Li said he had only hatched the odd plan as he wanted to travel with his “beloved” turtle. Despite his affection for the animal, Mr Li agreed to leave his pet with a friend while he was away in Beijing.”
Tourist stabbed to death for refusing to stop singing: “AN AMERICAN tourist was allegedly stabbed to death by three Thai musicians after he refused to stop singing at a bar in a popular tourist resort, police say. Bobby Ray Carter, 51, died after he was stabbed twice in the chest while his son Adam, 27, suffered a stab wound to his arm, during a fight with members of the house band from the Longhorn Saloon early on Wednesday at Ao Nang beach in Krabi. Police said the three musicians were arrested at the scene and confessed to stabbing the Americans. Carter had joined the musicians on stage for a singalong, but a row broke out when he refused to stop singing as the band took a break. On its website, the Longhorn Saloon advertises “jam with the band” as one of its attractions, along with “good music, funfunfun and friendly staff”.”
Art lover who bought drawing at jumble sale for £3 says it’s by Andy Warhol: “An art enthusiast who bought a £3 sketch from a jumble sale that could be an original by Andy Warhol has put the drawing up for sale on eBay – with a minimum price of £1.25million. Andy Fields, 49, was astonished when experts said that one of a handful of unidentified sketches he picked up at a sale in Las Vegas could be a previously unknown picture by the pop art legend from when he was aged 10 or 11. Although the late 1930s pencil and graphite sketch has been formally valued at £1.3million, Mr Fields says he has been told it could be worth up to ten times that. He says that if it was an original as claimed, the drawing of singer and actor Rudy Vallee would move the birth of Pop Art back almost two decades and show Warhol was already doing it in childhood. But doubts do remain about the work. The piece it is signed ‘Andy Warhol’ and he only changed his name from Andrew Warhola in 1949.”
The BREATH DIET that takes just five minutes a day: “If you are struggling to stick to a diet of carrot sticks and lettuce leaves, news of the latest weight loss technique to be sweeping Japan could be music to your ears. Former actor, Miki Ryosuke, claims to have lost two stone and five inches from his waist in seven weeks by following his Long Breath Diet. Mr Ryosuke, 55, claims that followers of the diet just have to spend two minutes a day concentrating on taking long breaths and then exhaling aggressively. The dieting guru says that he invented the diet by mistake while practicing breathing techniques in an attempt to reduce his back pain, Oddity Central reports. While he was practicing the breathing techniques, Mr Ryosuke noticed that he was losing weight. As a result of the discovery, he drew up the Long Breath Diet which involves the dieter taking a specific position before inhaling for three seconds and then exhaling powerfully for seven seconds.”
