Odd news from around the world
Naked Wal-Mart thief: “Verdon Lamont Taylor walked his bare-ass self into Walmart and went straight for the socks. Not the trench coats, not the bath robes. Taylor breezed right past those bad boys because for him, footwear is where it’s at. Funny thing about that — the rest of the shoppers at Walmart (the ones wearing clothes, that is) were less than supportive of Taylor’s quest for socks. The police tried to explain this conflict of interest to Taylor, but when he wouldn’t listen, they really had no choice but to use a stun gun on the very large, very naked man. Taylor has been charged with aggravated assault and indecent exposure and is currently being held in prison on $50,000 bail. But what I really want to know is, did they at least give him a pair of socks to wear while he’s in the slammer?”
Male honey-trapper paid £1,000 a night by suspicious husbands to find out if their wife is cheating: “A male honey-trapper has revealed he was paid thousands of pounds by jealous men to find out if their partners were cheating. Jack Knowles claims he would woo women in nightclubs across the UK after their boyfriends and husbands tipped him off to where they would be. The 22-year-old entrepreneur would then use pictures to identify the women before making a move. Mr Knowles, from Stratford, claims he has made about £200,000 from jealous men over the past two years. He said he would work about two nights a week and charge up to £1,000 for a single night, depending on how far he had to travel. ‘I usually observe whether [the woman] is with other guys and will then go up to the girl,’ he said. ‘If I flirt with her and she kisses me, I will walk away from the situation as soon as possible and then report back to her partner that she’s not faithful.’ A businessman even asked Mr Knowles to get his partner to a hotel room after the night out and it was at this point his client made an appearance.”

Hairy dog is worth a fortune: “Some pet owners go to any lengths to pamper their furry friends – but one dog is entitled to feel a million dollars. ‘Emperor’, a Tibetan Mastiff, with his thick double coat, went on sale this week for a staggering 10 million Yuan (£1m). He was one of more than 1,000 Tibetan mastiffs from across China appearing at a two-day dog trade show in Shijiazhuang, capital of northern China’s Hebei Province, this week. The average price being asked for one of the dogs was around 1 million Yuan (£100,000). The Tibetan Mastiff has become a status symbol in China because they are thought to be holy animals, blessing their owners’ health and security. But his owner believes Emperor is a particularly handsome catch, offering him out for breeding purposes with a single mating costing half a million Yuan (£50,000). The Tibetan Mastiff is an ancient breed of dog, originating from the nomadic cultures of Central Asia.”

It’s carnival time again: “The world’s biggest party has started in Brazil, drawing millions of people to the streets for a raucous celebration of music and mayhem. Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Salvador, three of the centres of the festivities, have been blanketed by a sea of sequins, feathers and glitter. The parties jammed into high-gear today, as revelers danced to the beat of samba music pulsating through the cities. Carnival, whose roots lie in last-minute carousal before the austere Catholic season of Lent, officially began in Brazil on Friday and lasts through early Wednesday. Each year it attracts as many as 250,000 foreign tourists to Rio and twice that number to Salvador, to join millions of locals who party through the night.”
Meanings of dreams?: “Most of the dreams we have are due to anxiety,” said Adele Nozedar, author of the book “Freaky Dreams: An A-Z of the Weirdest and Wackiest Dreams and What They Really Mean” (HarperCollins). “The highest proportion of dreams that we have is about things we are worried about.” “All of the most popular recurring dreams have to do with some sort of anxiety — such as fear of exposure, loss of control, and not being prepared,” she said. “The only one that doesn’t is the flying dreams. If you’re soaring above rooftops this is great. It implies confidence in yourself and satisfaction with your life.”
